Convert Word to PDF
Turn Word documents (.docx) into PDF files without uploading them. The document is read and laid out in your browser: paragraphs, fonts, bold and italic, colours, lists and numbering, tabs, tables with borders, shading and merged cells, pictures with or without text flowing around them, shapes and text boxes, columns, footnotes and endnotes, headers and footers with page numbers, links, page sizes, orientation and page breaks follow the Word file; comments become PDF notes. Calibri, Cambria, Arial, Times New Roman and Courier New are replaced by free fonts with exactly the same character widths, so lines and pages break where Word breaks them. Before converting, you see what the document contains and how each part will be handled.

Your document is converted in this browser, not on a server. Text, fonts, lists, tabs, tables, pictures (also with text flowing around them), shapes and text boxes, columns, footnotes, headers and footers with page numbers, page sizes and page breaks are laid out like Word; comments become PDF notes. Before converting, you see exactly what a document contains and how it will be handled.

How to use Word to PDF
- Select one or more Word documents (.docx) or drag them into the box.
- Check the notes for each document: replaced fonts and parts that are not included.
- Choose the paper size, how tracked changes appear, and whether links, document properties and comments are kept.
- Select "Convert to PDF", look at the page previews and download each PDF, or all of them as a ZIP file.
Good to know: limitations
- Charts, equations as formulas, and shapes other than rectangles, ellipses, lines and text boxes are not included (older VML drawings neither).
- Pictures in formats other than PNG and JPEG (EMF, WMF, SVG…) are not included.
- Text flows around a picture on its wider side only; line breaks beside pictures can differ from Word.
- Columns are balanced approximately before a continuous section break.
- Fonts other than Calibri, Cambria, Arial, Times New Roman and Courier New are replaced by similar fonts, so line breaks may differ.
- Old .doc, password-protected and OpenDocument (.odt) files must be saved as .docx first.
- The PDF is not tagged for screen readers yet (text, language, links and bookmarks are included).
Frequently asked questions
Is my document uploaded?
No. The Word file is read, laid out and turned into a PDF by your browser on your device. Only the free fonts the document needs are loaded from this website.
Will the PDF look exactly like Word?
Text, lists, tabs, tables, pictures, headers, footers, page numbers, page sizes and page breaks follow the Word document closely. For Calibri, Cambria, Arial, Times New Roman and Courier New, free fonts with identical widths are used, so lines break in the same places. Other fonts are replaced by a similar one and are listed before converting. Text flowing around pictures goes on their wider side, so line breaks there can differ; charts and special shapes are not included, and each document shows what this affects.
What happens to tracked changes and comments?
You choose: the final version (changes accepted), the original (changes rejected) or both, with insertions underlined and deletions struck through. Comments become PDF notes beside the text they belong to (or are left out, if you choose).
Which files are supported?
Word documents in the .docx format (Word 2007 and later, also from LibreOffice, Google Docs and Pages). Old .doc files (Word 97–2003), password-protected Word files and OpenDocument (.odt) files are recognised and explained, but not converted: save them as .docx first.
Are German and other languages supported?
Yes. Umlauts and ß, Greek, Cyrillic, Hebrew, Arabic, Indian scripts, Thai, Chinese, Japanese and Korean are drawn with fonts that contain them, and the text in the PDF stays searchable and copyable.
Can I protect the PDF with a password?
Yes: open the converted PDF in Protect PDF on this site.
Is it free?
Yes. There is no sign-up, no watermark and no daily limit. The site is financed by advertising.
